Work to replace Ontario State Parkway Bridge to start on Monday

Work is set to begin next week on replacing the Ontario State Parkway Bridge in the town of Greece.

The bridge carries Lake Ontario State Parkway over Salmon Creek.

Beginning on Monday traffic on the Parkway will be reduced to a single lane in each direction. Eastbound traffic will be shifted to the north side of the roadway while the south side is removed and replaced.

Both lanes in both directions are set to re-open in October. Work will resume in 2014, when westbound traffic will shift to the newly constructed south side and the north side will be replaced.

The existing bridge was built in 1954. According to the New York State Department of Transportation the project to replace the bridge costs $4.7-million dollars. It will include improved fishing access to Braddock's Bay.
