The renovations were paid for with grant money and town funds.

The library, located on Vince Tofany Boulevard, will officially re-open at 9:30 a.m.

Historic Northgate Plaza marker to be unveiled

A new historical marker will be unveiled in front of Northgate Plaza on Dewey Avenue.

Northgate Plaza has a long history with residents of Monroe County. The land it was built on was once home to Native American tribes and later a fruit farm. Most recently the land was used to build the first suburban shopping plaza in the area.

"We all have fond memories of Northgate Plaza and the importance of its history was expressed to us by many residents in the community," said 1st Ward Councilwoman Shannon O'Keefe. "We felt it was important to preserve that history with this marker."

The ceremony takes place on Tuesday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m.

Greece Planning Board approves redevelopment at Greece Ridge Mall

The Greece Town Planning Board has given Wilmorite the "okay" to go forward with redevelopment at Greece Ridge Mall.

The Bon-Ton store at Greece Ridge closed in March. Now Wilmorite plans to demolish the two-story building and replace it with new retail and restaurant space. The project also calls for new parking and landscape.

Wilmorite is asking the county for $3.5 million in tax breaks to move the project forward. The county has the support of the town board, but the Greece School District said last month it was concerned about the potential loss of tax revenue.
