Redmond to seek spot on Greece bench

The Greece Town Justice race is firming up, as a Democrat has announced he will run in this fall’s contest.

Gregg H. Redmond will seek one of the four seats up this fall, he announced Friday.

Redmond, an attorney, has spent the last 19 years practicing law - with Pelkey & Pelkey PC, Corcoran & Corcoran PLLC, and most recently through his own practice in Greece.

“As a lifelong Greece resident, I have served the town in many roles throughout the years – as a volunteer fireman, local business owner, practicing attorney and more,” Redmond said. “Greece is my home, and I would consider it an honor and privilege to serve as town justice.”

New principal named at Holy Cross in Charlotte

There will be a new principal at Holy Cross School in Charlotte next year and she's a familiar face too.

Mary Martell was appointed new principal at Holy Cross. She will be replacing Kathy Dougherty, who is retiring.

Martell has been a teacher at Holy Cross since 2004.

She has New York State Permanent Certification and has a master’s degree in Education from Nazareth College of Rochester, as well as a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Nazareth.  She will be continuing her education at the State University of New York at Brockport.

 

 

Hunter's 5K Run/Walk to be held in July

Hunter's 5K Run/Walk to be held in July

The second annual Hunter’s 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, July 20 at Barnard Park in Greece.

The race is named for Hunter Resch who was shot and killed by his father, Mark Resch in February 2010. Mark Resch took his own life after killing Hunter.

Race details:
7 a.m. - Registration opens
9 a.m. – Registration closes
9:15 a.m. – Race begins for runners
9:20 a.m. – Walkers start
10:30 a.m. – Awards ceremony

Medals will be awared to the top male and female finishers.

10th annual Gabe Dalmath walk held on June 1

For 30 years, he was one of Rochester's most recognizable faces. News10NBC's Gabe Dalmath loved giving back to the community.

On Saturday, June 1, the annual Gabe Dalmath Memorial Healthy Strides for Happy Kids Walk will be held in his honor at Camp Northpoint on North Greece Road in Hilton.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.

Assemblyman Reilich's office to particpate in Relay for Life of Greece, Paint the Town Purple event

Assemblyman Bill Reilich tells News10NBC that his office will be participating in the Relay for Life of Greece, Paint the Town Purple event, in support of the fight against cancer.

On June 8 and June 9, members of the community will transform buildings and businesses purple to honor those who have been affected by cancer.

Reilich said, “This is a great way to show support and help in the fight against the deadly disease that is cancer. Better yet is the fact that this Paint the Town Purple campaign will help bring businesses, volunteers, and our community together for a common goal. This is certainly a commendable event that my office looks forward to participating in to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer and our continued fight against cancer.”

Victors Gymnastics Team hosts Victory Classic

The Victors Gymnastics Team of Greece hosted the third annual Victory Classic on Saturday, May 11, in Rochester.

Level 3

In the Child age division, Makayla Ransear, of Greece, placed first on balance beam and third on floor exercise. Rachael Carpenter, of Rochester, placed second on uneven bars, floor exercise and all-around. Allison Cucci, of Irondequoit, placed second on vault, and third on uneven bars, balance beam and all-around.

In the Child age division, Rylie DelVecchio, of Greece, placed first on vault, uneven bars and all-around, second on floor exercise, and third on balance beam. Lindsey Grasely, of Greece, placed second on balance beam. In the Senior age division, Gabrielle DePetres, of Hilton, placed first on vault.
