Historic Northgate Plaza marker to be unveiled | News

A new historical marker will be unveiled in front of Northgate Plaza on Dewey Avenue.

Northgate Plaza has a long history with residents of Monroe County. The land it was built on was once home to Native American tribes and later a fruit farm. Most recently the land was used to build the first suburban shopping plaza in the area.

"We all have fond memories of Northgate Plaza and the importance of its history was expressed to us by many residents in the community," said 1st Ward Councilwoman Shannon O'Keefe. "We felt it was important to preserve that history with this marker."

The ceremony takes place on Tuesday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m.
