Greece Arcadia High School to stage Beauty and the Beast

Greece Arcadia High School to stage Beauty and the Beast

The 1991 Disney film "Beauty and the Beast" was already something of a classic by the time the students who will stage it this weekend were born.

The story, of a handsome prince turned into a beast and the woman who falls in love with him, thereby restoring him to human form, is based on an 18th century French fairytale. Disney set it to music, added talking household items, and a beloved film was born. Greece Arcadia High School students will bring it to life this week.

"It's always been my favorite Disney movie," Kevin Pinzke said. He really wanted the role of "Gaston," the villain, and won it.

"It's my senior year, last show, and I couldn't go out more perfectly," he said.

Several members of the cast said their familiarity with the film, as well as the storyline, have made it a thrill to adapt to the stage.

"I just think it's a neat experience to take Disney magic and put it on the stage," Jessica Case, who plays "Mrs. Potts."
